STOP PRESS!
FLEMSKI DRAW BRYANS IN SAN JOSE R1
(08.02.10) Ross Hutchins going down in R2 last week in Zagreb means Ken Skupski holds on as GB #1 mens doubles exponent in today's list (by 1,416 ranking points to 1,395 with Colin Fleming on 1,366). The luck of the draw at the ATP250 in San Jose, USA has team Flemski up against the top seeds in their opener for the second week running; this time it's the Bryan twins fresh from their Australian Open triumph; mind you, Flemski did beat them at Queens last year.... GO, FLEMSKI!

ANNE KEOTHAVONG BACK IN BUSINESS!
(07.02.10) February last year saw Anne Keothavong achieve singles top 50 status as world #48, the first British woman to do so since Jo Durie in 1993. This February sees Anne in a different place, returning to the fray after 6 months sidelined with injury. 2 singles wins out of 3 in last week's unsuccessful Fed Cup campaign in Portugal will have been very useful matchcourt time ahead of this week's $100k ITF in Midland, Michigan, USA which also has Elena Baltacha, Katie O'Brien, Heather Watson and Naomi Broady in action. WELCOME BACK, ANNIE!

SUTTON: ANNA SMITH GOES CLOSE
(06.02.10) After overturning the rankings all week Anna Smith, Britain's sole survivor in the $25k ITF tournament at Sutton, narrowly failed to make it four in a row today. Up against the 3rd seed and a 248 rankings deficit in the singles SFs, Anna took the first set 6-2 but was edged 5-7 in the second; the momentum was then with her Czech opponent who took the third 6-1. But she's closing in on her Career High ranking again now (see the Sutton thread on the public forum for more details): GREAT WEEK, ANNA!

SUTTON: ANNA SMITH SAILS INTO THE SEMIS
(05.02.10) With all other Brits going down at the Sutton $25k today (details on the Sutton thread on the public forum), it is Anna Smith who, as she did last month in Glasgow, carries the flag alone into the week-end. Her excellent start to 2010 continued today with a very impressive QF performance. Anna, whose mojo appeared lost during the first half of 2009, had a good second half to 2009 starting with picking up the Felixstowe $10k singles title just after Wimbledon and culminating in landing the Barnstaple $50k doubles title. She has a tough assignment tomorrow though! GOOD LUCK, ANNA!

AdvantageGBTennis was formed in November 2008 to support Great British Tennis. We know how hard it is for up and coming tennis stars. There are few sports that require such individual dedication and sacrifice on the road to achieving the goal that most aspiring players have: “to be the best I can be”.

We’re not just talking about the hours of training (on top of school during the junior years!) with little time for anything remotely resembling a social life but also the financial hardship most players have to endure. The vast majority of hard working aspiring players in GB incur a substantial net loss every year and, contrary to popular belief, have to rely on the support of family and friends to enable them to carry on.

We believe that tennis fans throughout Britain would like to provide help beyond just moral support but there hasn’t really been a mechanism to let that happen. What’s more, the familiar British reserve normally gets in the way of the players themselves asking for help even when it’s really needed! So Advantage GB Tennis was formed to provide fans and supporters with a simple mechanism for showing ongoing support for their favourite player and to enable them to really feel a part of the journey to success.

By joining the Private Fan Club of the GB tennis star shown on the left, you’ll get a real life, behind the scenes, view of her life. A regular blow by blow account of the highs and lows of life on tour via her private blog; plus, in the private areas of her website, further private thoughts, insights, photos and forums.

Don’t think that players don’t read the forums because they do!! Life on the road can be quite lonely : in  foreign lands between training and matches wondering if they’ll qualify for the next round and hopefully win enough money to pay the bills and get to the next tournament on time!

So you can imagine what a boost to the morale it would be if that were you: reading supportive comments and realising that, although they may be thousands of miles away, the fans back home were following your every match and rooting for you all the way.

That’s why this Fan Club website was formed: to try to help give our GB tennis touring pros an Advantage!

To find out more, click on the tennis player you want to support. Then sign up to her Fan Club! If you don’t see the player you want on the list, write to us by clicking this link and tell us who you’d like to support and we’ll get in touch with them to let them know.
