Big turnout of Brits here including top seed!

I'll eat my hat if this one doesn't bring a title back to blighty! Nine Brits (counting in honorary Brit Jo Konta) in the field for this one including GB #3 Anne Keothavong who, with a WTA level win under her belt this week, will surely fancy her chances of lifting the title.

Entry list latest:-

MD: 1 Annie K; 9 Naomi C; 10 Mel; 12 Heather; 18 Naomi B

Qualies: 1 Jo; 5 Em ; 11 Jade W; 12 Anna F

Good luck everybody!

8 Brits in the MD, then!

Only one casualty, Jade Windley, in the qualies so Em and Anna (Jo ended up being a DA into the MD) join the other 6 in R1

Unfortunately, Anna and Jo meet in R1 and are in the same quarter as top seed Annie K; in the second quarter Heather faces in R1 an opponent she beat over 3 sets at Clearwater in March, Sheng-Nan Sun of China; the third quarter has another all-Brit R1 between Mel and Naomi B; the fourth quarter features 8th seed Naomi C and our Emily who would not meet before the QFs: likely meet with 2nd seed Elena Bovina of Russia in R2 for Em first though...

Good luck everybody

Great result, Heather!

Annie K, Naomi C and our Emily not in R1 singles action until tomorrow but today brought further confirmation that new GB #5 Heather Watson is moving up apace by beating Sun, ranked 248, comfortably 6-1 6-2 ; next up will be a very good test in 3rd seed Elena Chalova (RUS) ranked 181; go, Heather

Mel v Naomi B ended 4&4 in Naomi's favour; Anna v Jo was also 4&4, in Anna's favour; Emma Laine (FIN) ranked 282 next up for Naomi and, probably, Lina Stanciute (LTU) for Anna. GL, both

5 Brits in R2 it is, then!

Sadly, Naomi C went down 4-6 in the third today but, happily, Annie and Em both progressed in straight sets to join Heather, Anna and Naomi B in R2

Annie won 6-2 6-3 and faces J-J Lu (CHN) ranked 272 next; the winner will have a QF against Anna or Stanciute of Lithuania ranked 247.

As already mentioned above, Heather and Naomi have Chalova and Laine next respectively.

Toughest assignment in R2 is undoubtedly Emily's up against the former world #14 Elena Bovina now ranked 160 but still the second seed here and, clearly, she'll know her way around a court a bit. GL, Em

GL all

So close, Em!

Superb effort in R2 against Bovina, former world #14 now ranked 160, before going down 4-6 6-2 4-6; head up, Em

Brilliant result for Anna, best since her injury problems began, winning 1-6 6-2 7-6(4)

Unfortunately, of course, it's top seed Annie K next for Anna; still at least it means a Brit in the SFs for sure

Anne eased through 6-4 6-0

Naomi and Heather both went down in R2 today so its just the two Brits left in the singles...

Mel and Emma Laine (FIN) are top seeds in the dubs and won their QF 2&4 today
Anna and Jade W are still in, with their R2 still to play...

Annie and Mel still in it to win it!

British top seed Anne Keothavong, in the singles, and top seeds Mel South with Emma Laine of Finland, in the dubs, remain on course for their finals!

Things slightly complicated by Emma still being in the singles too and with rain delays Emma's schedule today, Saturday, is scary!

Annie K had to battle to get past Anna Fitzpatrick who looks like she may finally have shaken off her injury problems: Annie won 7-5 6-2 to face unseeded Kristina Kucova (SVK) in the semis; GL Annie

The other semi is Emma against second seed Bovina whose closest call by far to date was against our Emily in R2...

In the dubs, second seeds Lu and Sun of China are already into the final whilst the top half of the draw catches up. Mel and Emma have a semi against the 4th seeds. GL, Mel

Mel wins title; Annie in final

Perfect day yesterday with top seeds Mel South and Emma Laine (FIN) winning their dubs semi against the 4th seeds Beygelzimer (UKR) and Chalova (RUS) 6-3 6-2 and then lifting the title against the 2nd seeded Chinese pair Lu & Sun 6-3 6-4. Superb, Mel!

Emma Laine had a singles semi against second seeded Elena Bovina (RUS) and ran her close 6-4 7-6(4) but not close enough to prevent our Emily having been the only one to take a set off the Russian en route to the final

Bovina up against top seed, one Anne Keothavong, in the final so that record hopefully about to be broken big time...

Anne made reassuringly short work of her semi beating Kucova 6-0 6-4

Oh no!

Here's hoping it's only a tweak...

Annie had to concede her match when 4-6 1-4 down with a hurting hip.

Not the grand finale hoped for but there's more important things than one $25k match (albeit a final! )

After Annie's big injury last year definitely not worth over-doing this one; get well soon, Annie
