The ITF Women's tour makes its 2009 debut in England this week for a $25,000 tournament. The draw hasn't been exactly kind to the Brit Girl contingent, again, pooling them in the same area of the draw rather than spreading them out. Heigh ho!

Naomi has followed her maiden tour win last week at the Grenoble 10k by winning through two rounds of qualifying (albeit at the expense of two compatriots) and Liz Thomas has continued her impressive start to the year taking out the world 343 and #3 qualie seed yesterday and the #11 qualie seed today!

The draw for the first round proper has 6 Brit Girls in the bottom half and none in the top half. Just hope Naomi and Liz don't join the rest!

Liz gave it a good go but went down 4&4 in her first round encounter with the 7th seed ranked 214 so more than !

The bottom quarter is a Brit Girl free zone, sadly, with Anna Smith and Mandy Elliott both going down in straight sets.

The third quarter had 2 Brit v Brit first rounds which both went according to ranking; 3rd seed Katie O'Brien now faces a second round opponent ranked below her but Naomi Cavaday is up against the 6th seed. Good luck girls!

In the second quarter, Naomi Broady continued her impressive run of form with a very tidy win 2&2 against a tricky opponent and now faces Kucova who did for Liz. Go, Naomi!

On balance it's a good news day today! Naomi Broady's great run of wins through Grenoble and qualifying here came to a brave end going down 7-6(8) 6-4 to Kucova. Still a very handy points haul to be chalked up a week on Monday!

Katie came through her second round with perhaps more ease than expected 1&1 to meet, for a place in the semis, Naomi Cavaday who had a super win today against the world 216 taking the third 6-3 after having to keep the match alive by taking the second set tie-breaker.

So it's a Brit v Brit QF tomorrow!
But at least it ensures home interest in the semis!

Katie had a good day in the doubles, as well, getting through her semi against the 3rd seeds to meet the 2nd seeds in the final. Good luck, Katie!

Katie was too hot for Naomi yesterday taking her down 1&1 to now face in today's semis Czech 2nd seed Voracova who is world ranked 145; good luck, Katie!

Katie's excellent week continued in the doubles too where she and her partner have made the final to face Voracova and partner. They'll be sick of the sight of each other!

In the top half of the singles draw, honorary Brit (pending the formalities being completed she still has AUS after her name) Johanna Konta continued to impress with a win in 3 sets over the Italian top seed and world 153.

A Katie v Johanna final would be nice!

Well, its gonna happen!!

Apparently Johanna just has to wait for her 18th birthday before she becomes an official Brit Girl so I'm calling tomorrow's final (BETWEEN KATIE AND JOHANNA!!) an all British one!

Katie did for second seed Voracova in style 3&2 and then Johanna finished off her second consecutive Italian in 3 sets! May the best Brit Girl win tomorrow!

Katie did go down once to Voracova today, in the doubles final; but I think we know which win meant the most!

Katie won her second career $25k title at Sutton yesterday in 3 sets so that's for her; and pretty for Johanna too as she'd had a great week. Roll on her 18th birthday in May!
