Anne Keothavong will be top 50 on Monday!

Annie's meteoric late blossoming is continuing its fantastic trajectory at the WTA event being held this week in Memphis.

Wonderfully, Anne is giving the lie to the theory expounded by many in the game that you're never going to "make it" if you haven't done so by (let us say!) the age of 24!

Ranked world 148 this time last year, Anne has had an amazing last 12 months to be ranked 52 at the start of this week. Truly an inspiration to all 24 year-olds!

She has taken up her 4th seeded slot in the semis by taking out the 5th seed and world 57 in yesterday's QFs 6-2 1-6 6-2; it is thought that the 130 ranking points earned so far will take her to world 48 on Monday!

Next up is world #12 and top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

Go, Annie!

OK so that was the end of Annie's campaign this time but what a fantastic run, one of many through 2009 I'm sure.

Yep, that was a bit of a mauling; but there's no gain without pain, so they say! She'll bounce back OK at Indian Wells next month fortified by her new career high ranking!

Pure conjecture, of course, but momentum is so important. The very first game lasted over 7 minutes with Anne fighting back from 0-40 but Caroline eventually taking it. If Annie had held the momentum would have been completely different; and who knows? Heigh ho!

It's confirmed by today's rankings! Annie at #48!!

And her doubles exploits not going unrewarded either, up 11 places to world 117 and up one in the GB list to #2 leapfrogging Mel South.
