Better late than never!

Eyes South in time to wish Katie O'Brien good luck in the QFs

Top of the draw and seeded to meet Michaela Krajicek in the final, Katie has been clinical so far dropping just 2 games in R1 and beating Megan Moulton Levy, no slouch, 3&3 in R2

That's another 40 ranking points in the locker so far. Go, Katie!

Michaela, sister of erstwhile Wimbledon champion Richard, is on her way back from injury having been top 30 in Feb '08. She survived a huge scare at the hands of Brit Girl Naomi Cavaday in R1 before squeaking through 3-6 7-6(1) 6-4

Make that 80 points in the bank!

Katie had lost badly to her QF opponent at the fag end of 2008 but made no mistake here winning 3&2 to secure her place in the semi

That's as far as it went, however, with Katie losing 4&2 to the 8th seed

Worth the trip though

Zagreb next... [EDIT: Katie withdrew]

Considerable consolation for Naomi's singles heartbreak by picking up the doubles title here and 150 ranking points, taking the final in the champions tie-breaker 11-9

That'll be a probable leap of some 300 places in the world list and a new career high ranking on Monday!
