Had a thoroughly enjoyable day at Eastbourne . Personal highlight was the rare chance to see Emily on centre court. The first set went in a flash with Emily shaking off a lack of match practice but the second was much better and she played really well against a highly ranked opponent. Some lovely touches at the net and three or four killer passing shots stick in the memory and a couple of aces.In the end 8-6 loss in the tiebreak but lots of reminders why I love watching her play....good luck next week at Roehampton. Also saw some of a good contest between Katie and Naomi B ...lots of hard hitting baseline battling.

Great post, pat51, thanks!

Glad you had a good day and yes it's great that Em's back on the matchcourt again after her wrist problem; and showing her class in that second set

Fingers crossed for a decent draw at Roehampton, sackfuls of ranking points and then, of course, Wimbledon main draw!

Great to know Katie and Naomi were playing some good stuff too

Delighted you're back, Em...and how!

Centre court at Eastbourne against the world #37...and what a battle you gave her in the second set

Very best of luck for Roehampton

Excellent result for Mel South today!

Q2 brought her up against 5th qseed Nicole Vaidisova the world #60 (jeepers this is a tough event...all of the world top 4-11 are in the main draw and the last direct acceptance is world #39! ) and she did the job 3&3

World #53 next up in Q3; good luck Mel

Katie went down to the 2nd qseed 4&2

Mel went down 4&2

The guys are also playing Eastbourne this year; Alex Bodganovic made it through qualifying to join wild cards Josh Goodall, James Ward and Colin Fleming in the Main Draw

And 3 Brit Guys won their R1s today

James beat Crivoi of Roumania 1&3 to set up a likely R2 against the top seed and world #26 Igor Andreev of Russia

Josh beat Japanese qualifier Ito 4&1 and Alex beat Minar of Czech Republic 6-4 7-6(3)

Colin went down in 3 to Lu of Taipei

Brit Girls in the Main Draw tomorrow are Bally and Annie K having to overturn the rankings to progress. Go, Girls!
