VANCOUVER: DOM INGLOT LIFTS $100K DUBS TITLE (09.08.10)

GB #6 Dom Inglot rounded off an excellent tournament for the British contingent at the $100k ITF in Vancouver, Canada by, in partnership with Treat Huey (PHI), winning the doubles final 6-4 7-5 to pocket 100 ranking points and a share of the $6,200 first prize. Dom's charge towards the top 100 continues in today's rankings list, up 13 to yet another new Career High of world #124. CONGRATULATIONS, DOM!

BRASILIA: JAMIE BAKER DOWNS WORLD #122 (10.08.10)

The kudos of being GB #2 behind Andy Murray in the mens singles list is currently Alex Bogdanovic's but Jamie Baker is only 29 places and 35 rankings points behind him in the world list (with James Ward a further 19 places and 16 points adrift). With Boggo not playing this week, significant maybe that Jamie has started his campaign at the $35k ATP Challenger in Brasilia by beating the 2nd seed and world #122 Del Bonis (ARG) 6-4 6-2. Great result, anyway! EXCELLENT, JAMIE!

TALLINN: 5 BRITS THROUGH TO ROUND 2 (11.08.10)

Very decent chance of a British singles title-winner at the $25k ITF in Tallinn, Estonia this week-end! GB #3 Anne Keothavong is top seed and leading the charge with, over the coures of yesterday and today, fellow Brits Anna Fitzpatrick, Heather Watson, Naomi Broady and Emily Webley-Smith also joining her in round 2 which starts tomorrow. See the Tallinn thread on the public forum for details. GO, ALL YOU BRITS!

TORONTO: ANDY MURRAY STARTS DEFENCE OF TITLE (12.08.10)

With the US Open just around the corner it's important for GB #1 Andy Murray to stay inside the world top 4 so this week's ATP1000 in Toronto is a biggie! As defending champion there's 1000 points to defend and the draw has a potential QF for him against world #5 Robin Soderling just 565 ranking points behind. No pressure, then! Good start in R2, having had a bye through R1, beating Xavier Malisse (BEL) 7-5 6-2 with world #18 Gael Monfils (FRA) next up. GOOD LUCK, ANDY!

TORONTO: SO FAR SO GOOD FOR ANDY MURRAY (13.08.10)

The intervening Cincinnati ATP1000 would give GB #1 Andy Murray the chance to retrieve his world #4 standing before the US Open if it were lost following the Toronto ATP1000; but great to see that the latest results have fallen Andy's way in Canada! Despite a second set blip, Andy beat Monfils in R3 (6-2 0-6 6-3) whilst Soderling and Davydenko, his closest challengers in the world list, both went down. Next up for Muzza is resurgent former world #3 David Nalbandian (ARG) seriously back in business now after injury problems and hot off winning the Washington ATP500. KEEP GOING, ANDY!

TORONTO: ANDY MURRAY DISPATCHES NALBANDIAN (14.08.10)

GB #1 Andy Murray produced a classy display to deal with the potent threat of David Nalbandian (ARG) 6-2 6-2 in the QFs of the ATP1000 in Toronto to set up the small matter of a semi against world #1 Rafa Nadal (ESP) which Muzza needs to win to remain world #4. WAY TO GO, ANDY!

GB 3 Anne Keothavong remains on track for her allotted slot as top seed in the singles having battled past fellow Brit Anna Fitzpatrick 7-5 6-2 in the QFs of the $25k ITF in Tallinn, Estonia whilst GB doubles #4 Mel South is doing likewise in the dubs, in tandem with Emma Laine (FIN), having won their QF 6-4 6-2 against a Russian/Latvian combo. See the Tallinn thread on the public forum. GOOD LUCK, GIRLS!

WEEK 32: TITLES FOR MURRAY, KEOTHAVONG, INGLOT, SOUTH? (15.08.10)

No question mark for Mel South actually! Mel, GB's doubles #4, and Emma Laine (FIN) lifted the dubs title at the $25k ITF in Tallinn, Estonia yesterday with GB's singles #3 Anne Keothavong taking on Elena Bovina (RUS) in the singles final today. At the ATP1000 in Toronto, GB #1 Andy Murray scalped world #1 Rafa Nadal (ESP) in the semis 6-3 6-4 to preserve his world #4 status and now faces current world #3 Roger Federer (SUI) for the title. Big upset at the $50k ATP Challenger in Binghampton, New York State yesterday where in the dubs semis GB #1 and GB #2 Ken Skupski and Colin Fleming went down to GB #6 Dom Inglot and Treat Huey (PHI) in two tiebreak sets to carry on that partnership's success from Vancouver and Dom's amazing 13 months' meteoric rise. GO, ALL BRIT FINALISTS!

TITLES FOR ANDY MURRAY, DOM INGLOT & MEL SOUTH (16.08.10)

Anne keothavong had to retire hurt in Tallinn so preventing a clean sweep but, superbly, Mel South was joined in the winners enclosure for week 32 yesterday by Andy Murray and Dom Inglot. GB #1 Andy Murray retained his world #4 status in the best possible style by successfully defending his Canadian ATP1000 title in Toronto with successive straight sets wins over Rafa Nadal in the semis and Roger Federer, 7-5 7-5, in the final. Suddenly back in the hunt for the US Open crown, then! Dom Inglot and Treat Huey (PHI) won their second successive title together taking the Binghampton $50k ATP Challenger dubs 10-8 in the Match Tie-Breaker. Dom is new CH world #120 today! SUPERB STUFF, YOU BRITS!

SALVADOR: ANOTHER GREAT START FOR JAMIE BAKER (17.08.10)

GB #3 Jamie Baker had a great first round win last week in Brasilia but was downed in R2; here's hoping for a better R2 outcome this week! Still in Brazil, at the $35k+H ATP Challenger in Salvador, he opened his campaign by beating Giovanni Lapentti (ECU) 7-6(2) 6-3 and next up meets Louk Sorenson (IRL). GO, JAMIE!

YOG: OLIVER GOLDING BEATS WORLD #1 (17.08.10)

The grade A tennis tournament forming part of the Youth Olympic Games currently taking place in Singapore has started stunningly well for Oliver Golding, GB's #1 Boy. Still 16 years old until the end of September, Olly was drawn in R1 against world #1 Marton Fucsovics of Hungary who was 18 in February. Far from being the end of the story, Olly claimed that scalp 7-5 6-3! BRILLIANT STUFF, OLLY!

YOG: OLIVER GOLDING THROUGH TO QFs (18.08.10)

Excellently, GB #1 Boy Oliver Golding, world #30, has followed up beating the world #1 in R1 of the Youth Olympic Games tennis in Singapore by stunning another higher ranked and older player in R2! Like Fucsovics, Alessandro Colella of Italy, world #17, was 18 in February. Olly dispatched him 6-2 6-1. Next up, in the QFs, Juan Sebastian Gomez of Columbia, world #14. EXCELLENT, OLLY!

YOG: OLIVER GOLDING GOING FOR GOLD! (19.08.10)

GB #1 Boy, 16 year old Oliver Golding, has a shot at gold, with a silver medal guaranteed, in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore! His fantastic singles campaign came to a halt at the QF stage but, undaunted, he and partner Jiri Vesely (CZE) won their dubs SF 6-3 6-2 to ensure a medal even better than bronze! A Russian pair stand in their way of gold. GO, OLLY & JIRI!

CINCINNATI: ANDY MURRAY THROUGH TO QFs (19.08.10)

World #4 Andy Murray has kept his winning run alive with gutsy wins in 3 sets against Chardy (FRA) and Gulbis (LAT) to reach the last 8 of the ATP1000 in Cincinnati, Ohio as he seeks back to back titles after lifting the ATP1000 in Toronto last week. With Robin Soderling still in the draw, to face Andy Roddick in R3 later tonight, GB's #1 is still not yet assured of the 4th seeding for this year's US Open; but it's looking ever more likely. GREAT WORK, ANDY!

CINCINNATI: ANDY MURRAY WORLD #4 FOR SURE! (20.08.10)

The overnight loss by Robin Soderling to Andy Roddick at the ATP1000 in Cincinnati means GB #1 Andy Murray will go into the US Open as 4th seed for sure! Excellent news! Andy faces world #36 Mardy Fish (USA) in the Cincinnati QFs with a 0-2 current year head-to-head to make good Fish having bested him at the Miami ATP1000 and on the Queen's Club grass. Think this is Muzza's time though! GO, ANDY!

CINCINNATI: MURRAY FRIED; FISH HOT! (21.08.10)

Hmmm! Not Muzza's time yesterday then but with the US Open next up it could be a blessing in disguise that GB's Andy Murray found Mardy Fish (USA) on hot form again in the scorching 100F heat of Cincinnati, Ohio in yesterday's QF at the ATP1000. A couple more days' recovery time will not go amiss and so, with job already done for Andy in terms of fending off pretenders on his world #4 status, hats off to Fish who took the third set tiebreaker 7-4. ANDY FOR THE US OPEN, THOUGH!

YOG: OLIVER GOLDING WINS GOLD MEDAL (21.08.10)

GB #1 Boy, 16 year old Oliver Golding, has today rounded off an excellent campaign at the grade A tennis tournament forming part of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore by, superbly, lifting the doubles gold medal in tandem with Jiri Vesely (CZE). Leading 4-1 overnight when rain meant that their final against Russian opponents had to go into a second day, they have polished off the job 6-3 6-1 and now plan to carry on their partnership at the upcoming junior US Open. CONGRATULATIONS, OLLY!

BRITISH TOUR (SUTTON): 3rd TITLE FOR EMILY WEBLEY-SMITH (22.08.10)

Emily Webley-Smith carried forward her recent good form on the ITF circuit to pick up today, following wins at Corby and Swansea earlier in the year, her third British Tour title of the season on her "home turf" at Sutton. She beat Stephanie Cornish 6-2 6-4 in the final. GOOD WORK, EMILY!

US OPEN QUALIFYING: 6 BRITS IN Q1 (23.08.10)

With 3 Brits straight into the singles Main Draws (Andy Murray, Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong), 6 more have made the cut into the qualies (Alex Bogdanovic, Jamie Baker, Katie O'Brien, Naomi Cavaday, Heather Watson and Laura Robson). Sadly, GB mens #4 James Ward and GB womens #7 Mel South were just outside the mark. Best chance on paper to get through the 3 rounds of qualifying is Katie O'Brien, seeded 19, with the 14th seed likely to be awaiting her in Q3. GOOD LUCK, ALL BRITS!

US OPEN: KATIE O'BRIEN DRAWS FIRST BLOOD (24.08.10)

GB #2 Katie O'Brien, ranked world #129, today chalked up the first win for a Briton at this year's US Open by beating Lesya Tsurenko (UKR), ranked 169, 6-4 3-6 6-2 in the first round of qualifying to set up a Q2 against Misaki Doi (JPN) ranked 163. No other Brits were in action today; 100% record, then! See the US Open thread on the public forum for more. KEEP GOING, KATIE!
