It's the middle Sunday; things looking promising

Apart from Andy Murray, there was disappointment in the singles with everyone going down in round 1 (albeit great promise for next year shown by Laura Robson and Heather Watson) but with Andy seeming to be getting more impressive with every round and some fantastic results from the mens doubles in particular much to look forward to in the second week of this year's Championships

The mens singles are down to the last 16 with the top 6 seeds still all in it. Andy, seeded 4, is in the same half as Rafa Nadal (2008 champion who was unable to defend last year owing to injury) and Robert Soderling with top seed Roger Federer (defending champion) and Novak Djokovic in the other half.

Next up for Andy is 18th seed Sam Querrey (USA) who won the title at Queens Club...

Andy crushed 26th seed Gilles Simon (FRA) in round 3 yesterday 6-1 6-4 6-4

Andy's second round match, in front of Her Majesty on Thursday, saw him beat Nieminen (FIN) 6-3 6-4 6-2 whilst his opener on Tuesday was also straight sets, albeit the first set was a bit iffy to start with: 7-5 6-1 6-2; good stuff Andy

In the mens dubs, top seeds and world #1s Daniel Nestor (CAN) and Nenad Zimonjic (SRB) used up their nine lives in R1 against British pair Jonny Marray and Jamie Murray before squeaking through 15-13 in the fifth; major + for the Brits there then; but the top seeds would not survive a second close encounter of the Brit pair kind

Having won their R1 in 4 sets, in R2 Brit pair Chris Eaton and Dom Inglot took the top seeds down 8-6 in the fifth ; fantastic stuff, Guys!

Next up for Chris & Dom is a 3rd round against 14th seeds from France Benneteau & Llodra...

Right down at the bottom of the R2 draw it's top Brit pair Flemski, Colin Fleming & Ken Skupski, against the American twins Bob & Mike Bryan 2nd seeds and world #3s (who Flemski beat at Queens last year ) Flemski having accounted for French pair Clement & Mahut (yes, him of the marathon first round singles match) in 4 sets lasting a mere 45 games

Flemski v Eatglot final then?!

Great to note other R1 wins for Brits ; by Jamie Delgado with Josh Goodall; and Ross Hutchins with Aussie Jordan Kerr albeit at British expense; both pairs went down in R2 though.

Continuing involvement in the Championships by British women is now confined to the mixed doubles with Sarah Borwell teamed up with Colin Fleming taking on the top seeds, Nenad Zimonjic (SRB) and Samantha Stosur (AUS), in R2 and Elena Baltacha (with Ken Skupski) and Anna Smith (with Jonny Marray) also through from R1; good luck you 3 teams

The womens doubles did produce some British wins in R1 (plus a mouldy draw for Brit #1 Sarah Borwell in which Sez and Raquel Kops-Jones nevertheless came darn close to toppling recent world #1 Liezel Huber going down 5-7 in the third + ).

Superbly, young British pair Joss Rae and Heather Watson took down experienced Australian pair Dellacqua & Molik 6-4 in the third ; and Elena Baltacha with Olga Savchuk won their R1 3&3 and took the first set off 4th seeds Dulko (ARG) & Pennetta (ITA) ; sadly, that's as good as it got for Bally and Olga.

Only highlights to come out of the womens singles for Britain were two markers for next year from Heather Watson and Laura Robson; Heather's first Wimby went to 3 sets; Laura ran 4th seed Jankovic close on Centre Court

Go, Andy!

Another emphatic win today for Andy Murray against 18th seed Sam Querrey (USA), 7-5 6-3 6-4, keeping his record of being yet to drop a set this Championships

Next up for Andy 10th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) who took 4 sets to get past the 32nd seed in R4...

The top 4 seeds are all into the last 8 but 5th seed Andy Roddick (USA) bit the dust today in the top half of the draw going down 9-7 in the fifth to unseeded Yen-Hsun Lu (TPE)

No Brits left in the mens dubs after today

Only Brits left apart from Muzza are Jonny Marray and Anna Smith in the mixed doubles where they are through to the 3rd round having today accounted for the 16th seeds 6-7(6) 7-6(3) 6-4 ; next up Russian pair Tursunov & Dushevina who beat the 3rd seeds in R2...

And then there was Andy!

They took a set in their R3 match but Anna Smith and Jonny Marray went down in the mixed leaving the stage clear for Andy Murray as the last remaining Brit in the senior Wimbledon Championships 2010...

Happily, Andy came through a tough QF test today with 10th seed Tsonga (the last Frenchman to beat Andy, at the 2008 Aussie Open, since when Muzza has won over 20 matches against French opposition); Andy dropped his first set of the tournament and a second was in peril but once he clinched the second set tiebreaker the result became increasingly inevitable: Andy's second successive SF Wimby appearance, going through 6-7 7-6 6-2 6-2

Going to be a toughie if Andy's to continue his trend of going one round further each Wimbledon year: Rafa Nadal.

Whoever wins that will not be facing Federer in the final, however; he went down today to Berdych who faces Djokovic in the other SF. That was only Roger's second loss at Wimbledon in 8 years, the other being in the 2008 final

Great stuff in the junior Championships!

Still British interest in three of the four competitions!

Only the girls' doubles is devoid of Brits with no-one making it through R1 but the girls' singles is assured of one British semi-finalist as 2008 Champion Laura Robson faces fellow Brit Tara Moore in the QFs

Laura is 8th seed having played little junior tennis this year; she came through today in straight (but not straight forward) sets against talented Belgian youngster An-Sophie Mestach, seeded 11, 6-4 7-6 whilst Tara's results have been getting progressively more convincing winning her R3 6-3 6-1 having put in the harder yards in R1 in particular beating the 14th seed 6-7 6-1 6-2

Meanwhile, the Boys' singles has today produced a magnificent result for British fans with GB #1 Oliver Golding putting out world #1 and top seed Jason Kubler (AUS) 4-6 6-3 7-5 ; next up in the QFs for Oliver is 9th seed Renzo Olivo (ARG); good luck, Oliver

In the Boys' doubles there are still 4 British pairings standing, albeit still to play their second rounds: good luck all you lads

Fantastic results in the Boys' dubs!

Magnificently, British pairing accounted for the top 3 seeds in the Boys' doubles R2 today!

Lewis Burton and George Morgan dropped the first set against the top seeds but won it 11-9 in the third ; if that was a long last set, Richard Gabb and Ashley Hewitt trumped it taking down the second seeds 16-14 in the third ; and joining them in the QFs are Liam Broady and Tom Farquharson who also won in the third but by the more routine margin of 6-2

Happily, the three Brit pairs are kept apart in the draw for one more round...

Unlike the Girls' singles, of course, where in the all-Brit QF Tara Moore gave Laura Robson a fright in the first set before Laura went through 7-5 6-1; next up for Laura is Sachie Ishizu (JPN) seeded 10 to Laura's 8. Go, Laura!

Excellently, there was no after the Lord Mayor's Show for GB #1 Oliver Golding today having put out the world #1 yesterday; it was no cakewalk but Oliver did the QF business 4-6 6-4 6-4 against the 9th seed

Next up for Oliver in the SFs is Benjamin Mitchell (AUS). Good luck, Oliver

No singles finalists this year then!

The dream of Fred Perry being usurped as the last home mens singles champion has been put on hold for another year; Rafa Nadal was at the top of his game today and came through against Andy Murray 6-4 7-6 6-4; hats off to Rafa who plays 12th seed Berdych in Sunday's final.

Oliver Golding's brilliant run came to an end in the Boys' singles when his Aussie opponent, nearly a year older, dominated their SF 2&2; and Laura Robson's hope of regaining the Girls' title she won two years ago also disappeared against her Japanese opponent albeit by the narrower margin of 7-5 7-6.

There are still hopes of a British title this year though

Not one but two Brit pairings are through to the Boys' doubles SFs and do not have to face each other either so here's to an all-Brit final!

Lewis Burton and George Morgan won 6-2 7-6(1) today and face the 5th seeds from Germany next ; whilst Liam Broady and Tom Farquharson today beat the 7th seeds from Brazil 6-2 in the third and face an unseeded Russian pair for a place in the final ; good luck, you lads!

British Boys' doubles title guaranteed!

Court 5 was the place to be today for followers of British Boys' tennis!

Lewis Burton and George Morgan took to the sward in the first Boys' doubles semi-final against the 5th seeds from Germany and a long, long time later walked off having booked their place in the final 6-3 3-6 15-13 And those last numbers are not a Match Tie-Breaker...that's 28 games! It's been that sort of Wimbledon!

Next up was Liam Broady and Tom Farquharson against a Russian pair and they seemed to be sailing through at 6-0 4-1 but had to hold their nerve in the face of a big comeback before closing it out 6-4 in the third

Brit pair v Brit pair for the title then

Well done lads
