WTA RANKINGS: EXCELLENT YEAR END FOR GB TOP 12 :)
(07.11.11) It is almost unalloyed good news for the GB top 12 in today's WTA Year End singles rankings list! GB #1 Elena Baltacha is on her best ever YE ranking; GB #2 Anne Keothavong is +10 today to be world #73; GB #3 Heather Watson is still comfortably inside the top 100; GB #4, 5 and 6 Laura Robson, Naomi Broady and Emily Webley-Smith are all on new Career High rankings; as are GB #8 Tara Moore and GB #12 Sam Murray. See the Rankings News (Women) thread on the public forum for more. EXCELLENT, GIRLS!

ISMANING: ANOTHER 2 TITLES FOR ANNE KEOTHAVONG :)
(06.11.11) GB's Anne Keothavong did it again! Following her singles and doubles titles last week in Barnstaple, the newly re-installed GB singles #2 and doubles #1 today repeated the trick at the $50k+H ITF in Ismaning, Germany. From 2-2, final set, against Meusburger (AUT) Anne reeled off the last 4 games and the Austrian was on the receiving end again in the dubs when Anne and Kiki Bertens (NED) took the final 3&3. A GRAND SEASON FINALE, ANNIE!

WTA RANKINGS: STRONG YEAR END FOR BALTACHA, KEOTHAVONG
(31.10.11) There's just one more week until the WTA Year End rankings and, after her runners-up spot in Poitiers last week, GB #1 Elena Blatacha is +8 in this week's singles list to be back inside the world top 50. Last week's titles in Barnstaple has Anne Keothavong +8 in the singles list to be world #83 and +25 in the doubles list to be world #144 and, after just one week as #2, re-installed as GB #1. EXCELLENT WORK, GIRLS!

POITIERS: ELENA BALTACHA INTO THE FINAL :)
(29.10.11) GB #1 Elena Baltacha is looking to finish her season on a big high (and possibly a new Career High ranking!) having today seen off a very stern first set challenge from Irena Pavlovic (FRA) to win her semi 7-6(8) 6-1 at the $100k ITF in Poitiers, France. A win in tomorrow's final will see Bally back inside the top 50 and, possibly, better than her current CH #49. Just the small matter next of amazing evergreen Kimiko Date Krumm (JPN), world #4 in 1995 and back out of retirement. GOOD LUCK, BALLY!

BARNSTAPLE: ANNE KEOTHAVONG LIFTS BOTH TITLES :)
(29.10.11) Anne Keothavong will nip back in front of Heather Watson in both singles and doubles lists to be GB #2 singles and GB #1 doubles on Monday. Today saw Anne crown three weeks of superb form by cruising to the singles title, beating Marta Domachowska (POL) 6-1 6-3, and then, with partner Eva Birnerova (CZE), win the dubs final 7-5 6-1 against the top seeds. Not a bad day's work! SUPERB, ANNIE!

BARNSTAPLE: ANNE KEOTHAVONG BEATS TOP SEED IN SF :)
(28.10.11) GB's Anne Keothavong is through to the final of the $75k ITF in Barnstaple ensuring she regains her GB #2 status from Heather Watson on Monday. Up against in-form top seed Mona Barthel (GER) who beat her in Shrewsbury en route to lifting the title there, Anne made the head-to-head 2-1 (having beaten her in Linz the week after Shrewsbury) by taking today's semi 6-3 7-6(6). LIFT THE TITLE, ANNIE!

BARNSTAPLE: R2 WINS FOR KEOTHAVONG & ROBSON
(26.10.11) With Tara Moore and Naomi Broady fighting hard but going down in R2 of the $75k ITF in Barnstaple today, and 3rd seed Anne Keothavong cruising through hers in the top half of the draw, second seed and GB #2 Heather Watson was up against  GB #4 Laura Robson for a QF spot at the bottom of the draw. It was an epic first meeting between the two with Laura edging it 6-3 in the third. GL IN THE QFs, GIRLS!

BARNSTAPLE: 5 BRITS THROUGH TO R2 :)
(25.10.11) Today was an excellent day for the home contingent in R1 of the $75k womens ITF in Barnstaple, Devon. GB #3 Anne Keothavong, seeded 3, and compatriots Naomi Broady, Tara Moore, Laura Robson and Heather Watson all won. Superbly, wild cards Naomi and Tara both overturned sustantial rankings deficits. Tomorrow sees the first ever singles clash between Heather and Laura. LOVELY STUFF, GIRLS!

WTA RANKINGS: EMILY WEBLEY-SMITH BACK IN WORLD TOP 250 :)
(24.10.11) GB singles #6, and doubles #4, Emily Webley-Smith heads into tomorrow's R1 of the $25k ITF in Port Pirie, Australia sporting a world singles ranking of 246 in today's new WTA lists. That's just 5 places shy of her Career High achieved a few months ago during Emily's first foray into the top 250 before a grumbling appendix interrupted progress. It's great that it's only taken 6 weeks on the matchcourt since her return for Emily to be back where she was. ONWARDS AND UPWARDS, EM!

AdvantageGBTennis was formed in November 2008 to support Great British Tennis. We know how hard it is for up and coming tennis stars. There are few sports that require such individual dedication and sacrifice on the road to achieving the goal that most aspiring players have: “to be the best I can be”.

We’re not just talking about the hours of training (on top of school during the junior years!) with little time for anything remotely resembling a social life but also the financial hardship most players have to endure. The vast majority of hard working aspiring players in GB incur a substantial net loss every year and, contrary to popular belief, have to rely on the support of family and friends to enable them to carry on.

We believe that tennis fans throughout Britain would like to provide help beyond just moral support but there hasn’t really been a mechanism to let that happen. What’s more, the familiar British reserve normally gets in the way of the players themselves asking for help even when it’s really needed! So Advantage GB Tennis was formed to provide fans and supporters with a simple mechanism for showing ongoing support for their favourite player and to enable them to really feel a part of the journey to success.

By joining the Private Fan Club of the GB tennis star shown on the left, you’ll get a real life, behind the scenes, view of her life. A regular blow by blow account of the highs and lows of life on tour via her private blog; plus, in the private areas of her website, further private thoughts, insights, photos and forums.

Don’t think that players don’t read the forums because they do!! Life on the road can be quite lonely : in  foreign lands between training and matches wondering if they’ll qualify for the next round and hopefully win enough money to pay the bills and get to the next tournament on time!

So you can imagine what a boost to the morale it would be if that were you: reading supportive comments and realising that, although they may be thousands of miles away, the fans back home were following your every match and rooting for you all the way.

That’s why this Fan Club website was formed: to try to help give our GB tennis touring pros an Advantage!

To find out more, click on the tennis player you want to support. Then sign up to her Fan Club! If you don’t see the player you want on the list, write to us by clicking this link and tell us who you’d like to support and we’ll get in touch with them to let them know.
